YäM Owner and Instructor
Hi, I’m Debbie Holexa
Founder of YäM Studio. I have been teaching and facilitating mindfulness meditation since 2008, supporting individuals, community groups and organizations in cultivating greater presence, resilience, ease and compassion in their lives. My work is grounded in both lived experience and formal training. I and my teaching are guided by a deep respect for the qualities of heart.
I hold a master’s degree in Contemplative Education from Naropa University, Boulder, CO and have advanced training in mindfulness-based life enhancing practices from UCLA, UC Berkley, UC San Diego and the HeartMath® Institute. I have had the privilege of training with respected teachers including Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Kristin Neff, Christopher Germer, and Diana Winston among others.
Hundreds of hours spent in silent meditation retreat have deeply impacted my personal practice, teaching style and way of being. These immersive experiences continue to inform how I teach and hold space, with presence, steadiness, humility and compassion.
I took my first yoga class at 12 years old, well before yoga clothes were a thing! My formal yoga training includes a 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from Yoga Pura, Phoenix, AZ which included additional training in Restorative and Yin yoga. I studied yoga at Spirit Rock Meditation Center guided by Djuna Devereaux, Anne Cushman, Leslie Booker and Tias Little. My Yoga Nidra and Yoga Therapy training were from Kamini Desai of the Amrit Yoga Institute.
The focus at YäM Studio is on the healing practices of yoga, mindfulness, meditation, self-compassion and mindfulness mentorship and coaching. My mission is to offer practices that are accessible, grounding, and supportive of overall well-being. I hope to help all find a more compassionate way to be in the world.
I look forward to practicing with you soon.
